Best Hair Color For Your Skin Tone
In the mood to change your look? Hair coloring is a great, temporary tool to utilize while you explore your options. Choosing the right hair color can be daunting with so many boxes staring back at you from the shelves, but once you know these tricks, you’ll be able to speed through the hair aisle with ease.
First, you need to figure out if you are warm or cool toned. There are several ways to find out. You can stand by a window and use a mirror to check under your eyes. If the skin has a purple or blue hue you are cool toned. If it looks more yellow or green you are warm toned.
You can also try a blush test by heavily applying pink blush on one cheek and peach blush on the other. Stand by a window and pull out your mirror. If the pink blush picks up the pink tones in your skin you are most likely cool. If the peach blush picks up golden tones in your skin you are warm toned.
Another easy way to tell is by putting on a gold chain and a silver chain. If you look better in the silver you are cool toned. If you look better in gold then you are warm.
Now that you know your skin tone you can choose the right hair color. Cool toned skin looks great with hair colors that have the words “ash”, “platinum” and “champagne”. Reds and burgundy look great too. Words like “golden”, “bronze” and “copper” look best for warm toned skin.
For dark skin, it’s a good idea to create contrast between your hair and skin color. Make sure to go lighter with colors such as “toffee” or “maple brown” or darker with colors such as “espresso”. Medium and olive skin tones compliment dark browns such as “mocha” and violet-based colors. Depending on how light your skin tone is, you can go as pale as “platinum” or “champagne”. If you have light skin with warmer tones, strawberry blonde and honey are great options.
