A Brief History of Hair Coloring
The art of hair coloring has been practiced since ancient times. Bark, leeks, leeches, eggs, henna all were used in various recipes to dye both men’s and women’s hair. Later, bleaches made of flowers, saffron and calf kidneys were used. Mixtures slowly became more dangerous as the practice evolved to using lead or sulfuric acid. As science progressed, chemicals were used to make synthetic dye. However, it would take more than advances in science to ease the mistrust the public felt toward manufactured hair color. continue
